Overview

Our internship program helps us to identify future leaders as well as provide an opportunity for interns to experience our culture and see the variety of career paths available at empirical.

 

Internships are temporary summer positions that last approximately 10-12 weeks. Each intern will be assigned a project(s) affording the opportunity to actively contribute to the manufacturing organization and build a comprehensive understanding of their desired field.

 

Throughout the internship, you will have the chance to work with our internal teams on the assigned projects as well as meet with upper management to reflect on your personal and professional development.

 

If applicable, all interns will be considered for full-time positions based on their performance over the course of their internship. Housing provided when needed. Empirical arranges various intern activities including sporting events, dinners, team lunches, etc. to provide opportunities for socializing, professional development, and learning more about the company.

Responsibilities

  • Develop PLC and HMI programs to satisfy current operations under the supervision of the Systems Engineering group.
  • Assist with tracking and documenting new and modified changes to the plant which may require physically visiting sites to take measurements and create accurate documentation.
  • Compile, track, and analyze specific information related to areas such as motors and drives, utilities, oil, and water. Prepare reports and information for display or distribution, as directed by the Systems Engineering group.
  • Develop solutions to routine technical problems of limited scope.
  • Assist in projects that may include multiple departments.
  • Cross training in multiple departments to gain an understanding of how multiple departments work together on various projects.
  • Ability to perform all essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Skills and Abilities

  • General computer knowledge and proficiency.
  • Basic knowledge of programming languages, such as SQL and visual basic or experience with Auto-CAD is desired.

Demonstrated Competencies

  • Basic mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of employees as necessary, both in verbal and written form.
  • Must have regular and punctual attendance.

Physical Requirements

  • Office setting.

Experience:  Basic mechanical or maintenance experience is preferred.
Education:  Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree or technical degree in related discipline.
